Jordan returns back its ambassador to Israel on Sunday
Jordan-Israel, Politics, 2/17/2005
Jordan on Wednesday announced that the new Jordanian ambassador to Israel will return back to Tel Aviv on Sunday, four years after his withdrawal following the eruption of the Palestinian Intifada.
The spokeswoman for the Jordanian government Asma Khuder said "Marouf al-Bakheit will be in his office in Tel Aviv on Sunday." On Tuesday, the Jordanian government approved the appointment of Amman's current ambassador to Turkey, Marouf al-Bakheit, who in the past assumed security posts, as its ambassador in Tel Aviv.
Al-Bakheit has a doctorate in political sciences. He is a retired army general. He headed the committee for implementing the peace treaty which Jordan signed in 1994. Both Jordan and Egypt announced they will return back their ambassadors to Tel Aviv during the Sharm al-Sheikh summit by the beginning of this month.
Meantime, the Jordanian King Abdullah II discussed with the Spanish foreign minister Miguel Moratinos recent developments in the Middle East. Moratinos hoped in a press conference with his Jordanian counterpart Hani al-Malaqi that the "Israelis and the Palestinians will make use of the availed opportunity for attaining peace in the region."
