Syria's economic relations with Iran to match political closeness
Syria-Iran, Politics, 2/17/2005

Syria's Prime Minister Naji Otari depicted on Wednesday his current visit to Tehran as of particular importance due to challenges facing the two countries and the region.

In statements to Journalists, Otari hoped bilateral ties and cooperation would be developed in various fields of economy and development to upgrade them to go with the political ties levels.

"The visit comes as to complement cooperation and development ties in all fields. There are new ideas to push the cooperation process forward and build new projects in investment and development domains," Otari added, noting there would be a discussion of a free trade agreement to develop ties.

First Iranian Vice President Reza Aref said Syrian-Iranian ties have entered into a new situation and became "an example to be followed," mainly after the Iranian revolution victory.

He continued that "ties have been increased on the political scene to be excellent and we tried to make economic ties match political relations."

"View points between the two countries are convergent and there is a permanent cooperation and coordination over regional and international domains," the Iranian First Vice President said.

Otari is in a visit to Iran in order to preside the Syrian delegation to Syrian-Iranian Higher Joint Committee meetings.
