Jaafari as Iraq's prime minister

The Iraqi coalition which is supported by the Shiite clergy Ayatullah al-Seistani chose the deputy Iraqi Vice President and chairman of the Islamic Dawa party in Iraq, Ibrahim al-Jafaari, to assume the post of the new prime minister. The decision will be issued within 48 hours.

Mrs. Jinan al-Obeidi, the woman candidate for the list of this coalition said that "after discussions with other lists, Dr. al-Jaafari was selected for the post of the prime minister." It explained that the other candidate to assume this post the minister of finance Adel Abdul Mahdi gave up this post to al-Jaafari.

Al-Jafaari deputy in the Islamic call party Adnan Ali stressed that this decision will be officially announced "during two or three days." The Iraqi coalition list won the first position in the general elections by getting 48.1% while the Iraqi prime minister Eyad Allawi got only 13.8% of the votes.

The Kurdistani coalition list came second and nominated Jalal al-Talibani, the leader of the Kurdistani National Federation party, to assume one of the two key political positions: The President of the republic or the prime minister. The Kurds announced today they will rally with all parties and political blocs which ensure their rights.
