Six American soldiers killed in Iraq; Turkish hostage released

A source in the Iraqi army in Tikrit said on Tuesday that Iraqi soldiers took the bodies of four American soldiers who died because they drowned in one of the rivers near Balad, 100 Km to the north of Baghdad.
The source which asked to be anonymous said that several soldiers of contingent 203, which has Balad as a headquarters, were able to take out the four bodies after their Hummer vehicle fell into al-Ishaqi river, noting that other four American soldiers were injured in the accident.
One American soldier was also killed in Tikrit together with two Iraqis in various incidents in the city on Tuesday and Monday evening. A report for the joint security coordination center in Tikrit explained that four mortars shelling fell on Monday evening on a base for the American forces in Samera that resulted in the killing of the American soldier and injuring another.
Meantime, one American soldier was killed and other three were injured from a bomb explosion implanted by gunmen near Baqouba situated 56 Km to the north of Baghdad.
In a statement, the American army said that the soldiers were in a security mission when the bomb exploded in the car they were riding.
On Tuesday the American forces killed one Iraqi citizen in one of the streets of Samera near a temporary checkpoint. Another Iraqi citizen was killed at the hands of the Iraqi police in al-Sharqat town to the north of Tikrit because of the jam of people queued to get fuels.
In another development, the secretary of the governor of Deyali Adnan al-Khadran survived an assassination attempt in al-Khaled city when a car driven by a suicide bomber went off and the incident resulted in killing its driver.
In Baghdad, gunmen clashed on Tuesday with the American forces in Haifa street which frequently witnesses confrontations between the two sides. Machine guns and bombs were used in the clashes which lasted for 15 minutes. The American army did not announce any losses in the confrontations.
Concerning the file of hostages, a Turkish official source said that the Turkish businessman was released on Monday evening, adding that Kahraman Sadeq Ogho was kidnapped in December, 2004 in Iraq. A spokesman for the Turkish foreign ministry said that Ogho spent Monday in a British base to the south of Iraq and was transported on Tuesday to Turkey.
