Lebanese opposition holds Lebanese government, Syria responsible for the attacks

Angry demonstrators attacked a headquarters for the Baath party in Beirut and the house of the prime minister Omar Karami.

The opposition in Lebanon held the Lebanese and Syrian authorities responsible for the assassination of Rafic Hariri and made use of the incident in order to call for the withdrawal of the Syrian forces before the date of the legislative elections due in this spring.

In a statement issued following a meeting held in Hariri's house, the opposition called the evacuation of what it called the "authority which lost people and international credibility" and the formation of an interim government.
