President Vincente Fox: visit to Morocco absolutely conclusive in trade, economy and culture
Morocco-Mexico, Politics, 2/14/2005
Mexican President Vincente Fox said his two-day visit to Morocco, paid at the invitation of King Mohammed VI, was "absolutely conclusive in trade, economy and culture."
The visit was "very beneficial, for we signed several agreements and (held) several meetings, not only between HM the King and myself, but also between our collaborators, working teams, CEOs, investors and cultural actors," president Fox told the Moroccan 2M TV channel "special guest" program, aired on Sunday night.
The Mexican president noted the two countries "started a development process of their economies and fully entered international economy and globalisation," adding Morocco and Mexico share the same vision based on a democratic approach.
He said the two countries have similar viewpoints on a number of bilateral, regional and international issues, noting the two parties have the ambition to launch several initiatives and bolster their exchanges "so that the agreements signed translate into job creation in our respective countries."
The Mexican head of state stressed potentials of the two countries should be tapped by using the free trade agreements signed by either country, adding the terrain is favourable to "speed up and spur the growth of our economies, and hence, set up synergies and enhance our mutual collaboration."
Vincente Fox also said "Mexico is a bridge for Morocco, its companies, investors, craftsmen and artists to get closer to Latin America, the United States and Canada," adding the kingdom is in turn "an entry door for the renewed Mexican reinforcement and consolidation policy with the Arab world."
In this respect, the Mexican president was keen on expressing thanks to King Mohammed VI "for facilitating and supporting the meeting we had with Arab countries ambassadors," stressing that the Morocco-Mexico alliance can be useful in bringing America and the Arab world closer. It is precisely in this perspective that falls the opening of the Mexican representation in Palestine, the Mexican president said adding the decision "is an additional gesture to unite us with new rapprochement initiatives and go back to the road map."
President Fox went on to say his talks with the sovereign dealt with several topical issues, namely the United Nations reform, "for which we have the same approaches and the same proposals," noting the existence of a consensus on this issue "will be absolutely useful in the expected reform of the UNO."
