Egypt: release of al-Ghad party deputy chairman
Egypt, Politics, 2/12/2005

The official in the opposition Egyptian al-Ghad party, Wael Nawarra, said on Friday that the government released the deputy chairman of al-Ghad party, Mousa Mustafa, while the party's chairman is still held in custody.

Nawarra said that the authorities released Mustafa on Wednesday. He added he still has to be subjected to investigations once again ( on Friday).

Last week the detention of parliament members and chairman of the al-Ghad part was extended for 45 days. The Egyptian attorney said on Wednesday that the accusation against Nour is a criminal and not a political matter.

On the other hand, France reminded Egypt of "its cling to the freedom of expression and pluralism." The spokesman for the French foreign ministry Herve Ladso "we know about Mustafa's imprisonment on February 9th." He indicated that this detention came less than two weeks after the detention of Ayman Nour, the parliamentarian and the chairman of al-Ghad party which was recently formed and licensed.
