American soldier killed, Zarqawi claims responsibility for bulldozer attack

The American army announced the killing of one American soldier in a bomb attack on Friday in Baghdad. In a statement, it explained that one soldier from the military units in Baghdad was killed in a bomb explosion to the west of the Iraqi capital Baghdad.

On the other hand, Al-Jihad al-Qaida Organization in Mesopotamia led by Abu Musab al-Zarqawi claimed responsibility for the attack in a booby trapped car at a Shiite mosque in Bulldozer to the north east of Iraq on Friday resulted in killing 14 persons and scores were injured.

The Iraqi security forces confirmed the killing of 14 persons and injuring of other 40 on Friday in a booby trapped explosion in front of a mosque for the Shiite in Bulldozer area. News reports said that the explosion was intended for a procession for the Iraqi army. One police official said that Iraqi soldiers were among the killed and injured persons.

Al-Zarqawi group also claimed responsibility for another attack on a Kurdish procession in Haifa street in the downtown of Baghdad resulted, according to the group, in killing two senior officials it did not identify.

The group also announced on Friday the kidnapping of one colonel in the Iraqi police in Baghdad. A statement issued on the site of al-Ansar Forum ( Muntada) on the Internet explained that it will publish shortly what it described as "admissions" made by the Iraqi colonel.

In another field development, news reports said that the outcome of confrontations took place on Friday to the south of Baghdad between the Iraqi security forces and gunmen increased to 17 killing and 80 injured persons of members of the Iraqi forces while 24 persons were killed in the confrontations including gunmen and civilians.

Iraqi sources said that these violent confrontation between police members and the gunmen took place in Salman Bak area to the south of Baghdad and lasted for two hours.

Meantime, earlier in the day, gunmen attacked a bakery in Baghdad and killed 9 persons at least, according to the Iraqi police sources.
