Palestinian official denies meeting with Hizbullah
Palestine-Lebanon, Politics, 2/11/2005
A Palestinian official who visited Lebanon denied reports that he had met in Beirut with officials from the Lebanese Hizbullah party.
Former Palestinian minister Abdul Fattah Hamayel, the delegate of the Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to Lebanon, said that these allegations which were made by some Palestinians and Israeli mass media are false, stressing that his mission was limited to hand over Abbas's message to the Lebanese President Emil Lahoud and meetings in the Palestinian camps in south Lebanon.
Palestinian security and political sources in Ramullah said that the chairman of the Palestinian Authority delegated Hamayel to notify Hizbullah on the need of halting support for the Palestinian organizations in this phase, so as to allow the way for the cease fire agreement and reactivate peace negotiations.
While the Hizbullah party denied knowing about the Palestinian delegate, the Lebanese government said that Hamayel arrived on Monday evening to Beirut and met with the Lebanese President on Tuesday and handed him over a message from Abbas. He was also received by the Lebanese prime minister Omar Karami.
