Moroccan justice says terrorist suspects extradited by Syria wanted in Morocco

The general prosecutor at the Rabat court of appeal said the two Moroccan nationals extradited by Syria were actually wanted in Morocco.
The source was reacting to some media reports that the two men were arrested for attempting to cross the Syrian-Iraqi borders for Iraq and were handed over to Moroccan authorities after confessing of plans to join the Iraqi resistance.
The media had commented that the Moroccan justice is not empowered to judge the two men for offences committed outside the Moroccan territory.
The general prosecutor said that actually the two men were extradited, as part of the criminal police investigations to dismantle all the religious extremist terrorist groups.
The source further explains that one of the two men was wanted for purported involvement in illegal operations carried out with the Tangiers cell to which he belongs and for assaults and causing damages to properties.
The second man was a member of the Salafia Jihadia extremist group and, as such, had established relations with members of the same group and plotted terrorist acts.
The two defendants were referred to the general prosecution on February 07 who interrogated them, in the strict respect of the right to defense. Charges held against the pair include physical assaults, criminal association to plot a plan meant to seriously harm public order and passport forgery.
