Berri and OIC Union Council
Lebanon-Syria, Politics, 2/10/2005

Lebanese Speaker of Parliament Nabih Berri on Wednesday reiterated his country's commitment to the international resolutions, stressing that the UN resolution 1559 constitutes intervention in Lebanon's internal affairs.

Berri added that the resolution dealt with a sovereign issue that comes of the UN Security Council jurisdiction.

The Lebanese official, who is also Chairman of the Federation of Councils of the Organization of Islamic Conference, was speaking at the opening of the Federation's 7th Session in Beirut. Representatives from 23 member-countries are taking part in the two-day meetings.

Mr. Berri stressed that Syria constitutes geographic, human and Arab depth for Lebanon, adding that ties between the two neighboring countries are bound by an agreement of cooperation and coordination.
