Egypt arrests deputy chairman of al-Ghad party
Egypt, Politics, 2/10/2005
The Egyptian security forces on Tuesday detained deputy chairman of the Egyptian opposition al-Ghad party, Mousa Mustafa, just less than two weeks after the detention of the party s deputy chairman Ayman Nour.
The official in al-Ghad party Wael Nour said that the police detained Mustafa upon his arrival at Cairo airport after a tour covered Paris, Dubai and London. He added "the authorities are not replying to inquiries on reasons behind his detention." Security sources said Mustafa's name was listed on the wanted list at the airport and that he was taken amid tough security measures to "a specialized authority to investigate him." On the other hand, the attorney general, consultant Maher Abdul Wahid said that Nour has been investigated in a criminal case, rather than a political case. He indicated that the accusation addressed to him is falsifying official papers and using false documents submitted to the Shoura Council. Nour denied accusations addressed to him, stressing that he is a victim of a conspiracy.
However, al-Ghad paper which was issued by the party was due to be in the market on Wednesday but the higher council of press banned its publication.
