Suleiman Awwad: summit gave both sides chance to hold talks at leaders' level
Egypt-Palestine, Politics, 2/9/2005

"The aim of the Sharm el-Sheikh four-way summit is to give the Palestinians and Israelis a chance to hold talks at the leaders' level, "said Egyptian Presidential spokesman ambassador Sulaiman Awwad.

In statements Tuesday, he said President Hosni Mubarak held lengthy meetings with Jordanian King Abdullah II, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Israeli Premier Ariel Sharon to reach consensus in views especially between Palestinians and Israelis.

The spokesman asserted that one-on-one meetings between the leaders earlier in the day created a positive atmosphere.

The meeting also allowed lengthy talks between Palestinians and Israelis to overcome obstacles, he added.

President Hosni Mubarak interfered occasionally difficult issues, said the presidential spokesman.

Awwad described the summit and the talks as positive and promising along the way for a dialogue on rebuilding confidence between Palestinians and Israelis to help re-launch the peace process.
