Poland supports UN initiatives on Moroccan Sahara issue, Polish official
Morocco-Poland, Politics, 2/9/2005
Polish Senate Speaker, Longin Pastusiak, voiced here Tuesday his country's support to UN Secretary-General's initiatives to find a solution to the Sahara issue.
"This issue hinders cooperation between Maghreb countries," the Polish official said to the press after a meeting with the Chamber of Advisors (upper parliamentary house) groups' chairmen.
The protraction of this problem is also an obstacle to finding a solution to the tragic situation of Moroccans sequestered in Tindouf," he went on, referring to 410 Moroccans held by the Algeria-backed Polisario on Algerian territory.
The Polish official called for boosting trade exchanges with Poland, which hardly exceed US $ 100 mln. He expressed hope that this visit will boost the bilateral relations and called Moroccan businessmen to consolidate their relations with their Polish peers.
He also welcomed the cease-fire agreement reached this Tuesday between Palestine and Israel as an initiative leading to peace in the Middle-East region.
During his four-day visit to Morocco, the polish official and the group of businessmen and MPs accompanying him will examine with Moroccan peers means to boost bilateral cooperation in different fields.
