Syria campaigns its true image in public relations
Syria, Politics, 2/9/2005
Syria has chosen public relations in order to present its "true image and the image of its people to the world professionally, at a time when it has been exposed to a fierce media campaign."
To serve this end, it was announced in Damascus on Tuesday the birth of a first society in the country for public relations, basically concerned with introducing the true image about Syria to the west." Board chairman of the "Syrian society for public relations" Nizar Maihoub said in a press conference held on Tuesday at the headquarters of the ministry of information "we today announce the foundation of the first Syrian society for public relations in order to give the real picture (of Syria) and its people to the west." Maihoub added the birth of this society is "considered a step forward to enhancing democracy and part and parcel of the civil society organizations to develop the Syrian society." He stressed that the "Syrian society for public relations is an independent entity and will maintain good relations with international governmental and non- governmental organizations and the foreign media, journalists and writers and public opinion leaders."
He indicated that the society "will be involved in encouraging studies and activities to disseminate the concept of public relations in Syria and develop the curricula by introducing the learning concept of public relations as a subject matter, holding courses in the Middle East in collaboration with the International Society For Public Relations in Britain." The society is duly approved by Syrian official sides concerned. It will survive on donations granted by international organizations.
