Lahoud stresses strong ties with Syria

Lebanese President Emile Lahoud on Tuesday underlined importance of implementing the relevant UN resolutions without selectiveness, adding that the UN should put into force resolutions regarding the Arab-Israeli conflict.
Lebanese President, during a meeting with UN Special Envoy to the Middle East Terry Rod-Larsen, said that his country is committed to relations with Syria who is considered a factor of stability in the Region.
"Syrian-Lebanese coordination came in the interest of the two sisterly countriesÉ and both of them adopted measures that were based on that interest," President Lahoud added.
Earlier, Lebanese Speaker of the Parliament Nabih Berri, renewed during a similar meeting with Larsen, Lebanon's rejection of the UN resolution 1559.
Following the meeting, the UN Envoy said that both sides exchanged viewpoints on issues related to the said resolution.
Larsen also conferred with Lebanese Premier Omar Karami on the latest developments in Lebanon and on the resolution 1559.
Meanwhile, the Trade Union in Lebanon stressed its adherence to Lebanese unity, national and pan-Arab stances.
In a statement issued Tuesday, the Union said that the Lebanese National Assembly which was held yesterday was a true and sincere call through which the Union expressed its national vision.
