Fatema Zhiri: I almost miscarried under torture
Morocco, Politics, 2/8/2005
Fatema Zhiri, a victim of human rights violations victim in the region of khenifra (middle Atlas), said Sunday she almost miscarried under torture and the atrocities she was inflicted.
Fatema recounted in detail the harsh conditions of her detention during the 5th session of public hearings into human rights violations committed between 1956 and 1999, organized by the Justice and Reconciliation Commission (IER).
The former detainee deplored in particular the lack of food and the cold, saying she was thrown naked in a "macabre" cell.
Fatema Zhiri was pregnant when she was arrested in 1960 in Tagleft because of the activities of her husband and his participation in the movement of "Caid Bachir." She lost her child seven months after his birth.
After her release, she sold wood and bread to provide a living for her family as all her possessions were confiscated.
Her husband was released in 1966 but his house was kept under surveillance for three months.
Fatema was arrested a second time in 1967 and a third time in 1973.
