Iraq, Local, 2/8/2005
The Egyptian embassy in Baghdad said that the four Egyptian telecommunication engineers who were kidnapped on Sunday in Baghdad were released.
The chairman of the Egyptian diplomatic mission in Iraq, Farouk Mabrouk, said on Monday that the American forces were able to release the four Egyptian citizens when they broke into the house where they were held.
The four Egyptians who work for the Orascom company for telecommunications were kidnapped while heading for their work in Baghdad, by an unknown armed group.
Meantime, the kidnapers of the Italian journalist Julian Segrena in Iraq said they will release her during the few coming days after they were assured she is not a spy.
"The Islamic Jihad organization" which claims responsibility for kidnapping Juliana said on the internet that she will be released within the few coming days. It added "after investigation with the Italian prisoner it was found out deliberately that she is not spying." In its statement, the organization explained that the release of the Italian journalist also comes in response to the call made by the Muslim Scholars Commission. Moreover, Turkish press reports quoted a family of a Turkish businessman kidnapped in southern Iraq on December 16, 2004 that the man will be released within the two coming days giving no more details.
