Al-Shara-Abu al-Gheit's talks in Damascus
Syria-Egypt, Politics, 2/7/2005
Syria's Foreign Minister Farouk al-Shara discussed with his Egyptian counterpart Ahmed Abu-al-Gheit the latest developments in the region.
During the meeting, Abu al-Gheit briefed al-Shara on the Egyptian efforts regarding the situation in the occupied territories, pointing out that these efforts come within the Arab peace initiative which aims at achieving the just and comprehensive peace on all tracks.
Both sides agreed on the necessity of consultation and coordination among the Arab parties concerned directly with the Arab-Israeli conflict. They also reviewed the latest developments on the Iraqi arena as well as the Arab Foreign ministers and G8 group meeting which will be held in Egypt next month.
"Talks with President al-Assad were positive and productive," Abu al-Gheit told reporters after meeting with al-Shara, pointing out that he delivered the President a letter from his Egyptian counterpart Hosni Mubarak on the current situation in the region.
He also underlined that talks with al-Shara touched upon the Palestinian and Iraqi situation.
The Egyptian Foreign minister expressed his country's hope to calm down the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories by achieving the Israeli withdrawal from them, stressing the necessity of recognizing the just and comprehensive peace on all tracks.
