Iran rules out US attack on its land
Iran-USA, Politics, 2/7/2005
Iranian Secretary Of the Supreme Council for National Security, Hasan Rohani, on Sunday ruled out USA will launch a military attack on Iran.
"Iran and the Europeans rely on dialogue in dealing with the Iranian nuclear issue," the Iranian official said in an interview with Iranian TV World Channel, calling on Washington not to ruin talks between Iran and Europe.
"If the Americans create suitable atmospheres to hold equal dialogue regarding the nuclear file between Tehran and Washington, we can look into another stance towards the US," Rohani added.
Today, the official news agency IRNA reported that "Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Ali Khamenei here on Monday said that the victory of the 1979 Islamic Revolution in Iran and its perpetuation stemmed from the wise resistance of the Iranian nation to foreign powers." Also, IRNA reported that "Possession of nuclear arms is harmful to Iran and will never serve national interest, Minister of Defense and Armed Forces Logistics Rear Admiral Ali Shamkhani said on Monday.
Speaking in an interview with Persian daily, Sharq, Shamkhani said that it is not in line with the national interests to acquire nuclear arms under the current power balance of the international community." IRNA reported Shamkhani saying "The United States has violated the international law by providing Israel with nuclear arms. We seek disarmament and the Israeli nuclear arms pose threat to Iran. Our concern about Israeli nuclear arms equipment has been put on the agenda of our negotiations with the European partners (France, Britain and Germany)." An Iranian government spokesman said according to IRNA "Our nation proved that it never allowed any aggressors to benefit from aggression on Iran. We are well prepared to defend our country. "The language of threat is not acceptable to us. We are ready to hold dialogue and ready to defend our country."
