US commends Saudi Arabia efforts to fighting terrorism
Saudi Arabia-USA, Politics, 2/7/2005
The American delegate to the Riyadh's conference on fighting terrorism, Francis Townsand, commended the Saudi efforts to fight terrorism, noting that these efforts achieved a fundamental progress. She cautiously welcomed the proposal made by the Saudi crown prince Abdullah Ibn Abdul Aziz on establishing an international center to coordinate cooperation and exchange information.
She considered that founding such a center will not abrogate the need for bilateral exchange of information in this regard. She indicated that any proposal might increase the exchange of information "will be a great gain." In one of the conference's close session, the official at the office of drying terrorism resources in the US treasury, Dany Glasser, demanded other countries to abide by international standards to fight money laundering and halting what he called the financing of terrorism.
In a press conference, the Saudi foreign minister prince Saud al-Faisal said that the objective behind organizing the conference is the confirmation of the Saudi participation in the efforts to fight terrorism, rather than organizing a public relations campaign to improve the image of the kingdom. This came in reaction to western criticism of Riyadh to that it is only trying to answer accusations addressed to it that it does not make enough effort to fight what is called terrorism.
