Some 96 Sub-Saharan illegal emigrants arrested in Morocco
Morocco, Local, 2/5/2005

Some 96 Sub-Saharans, attempting to illegally cross to Europe via the Moroccan territory, were arrested on February 2-3 during various operations carried out in the north African country.

According to a release of the Interior Ministry, the would-be emigrants were intercepted in Nador (north-east), Casablanca and Fez. Morocco has launched an extensive campaign to curb illegal immigration. In 2004, 26,000 attempts of illegal emigration were foiled and 423 human-smuggling networks were dismantled.
