Rabat court grants conditional discharge for seven people
Morocco, Politics, 2/5/2005

The Rabat appellate court decided on Friday to grant conditional discharge to seven indicted people, residing in Sidi Slimane, North Morocco, for "terror apology" contained in CDs and other documents sold in public and incitation for terror acts.

The criminal chamber of the court postponed to March 4th the hearing on the case to enable the defence to prepare its file. It also decided to postpone the hearing of four cases of 64 indicted people from Casablanca for falsification, criminal ganging to perpetuate terror.

On the other hand, the chamber threw the request for conditional discharge concerning Hicham Temsamani, under custody in the prison of Sale, twin city of Rabat. The man was extradited to Morocco last March 12 by Spanish authorities for alleged involvement in the Casablanca attacks. He was arrested on June 19, 2003 in Victoria, Spanish Basque region, at the request of Morocco.

The Rabat court decided to postpone the hearing on this case to February 25, to enable the appointment of a new expert-interpreter to confront French national Pierre Robert and Hassan Kheddaoui and Hicham Temsamani.

Deputy prosecutor said the two prisoners condemned for life in the case of the Casablanca attacks of May 16, 2003 were transferred to the prison of Kenitra, North of Rabat, then to the SalŽ prison.

The defence pleaded for speeding up the trial of Temsamani who spent more than one year and half in detention and asked to subpoena the two witnesses.
