Spain arrests a Moroccan in connection with Madrid attacks
Morocco-Spain, Local, 2/5/2005
The Spanish security services said they arrested this Thursday in Melilia, a Moroccan northern city still under Spanish rule, a Moroccan suspected of being involved in the terrorist attacks of Madrid last March 11.
Rachid Mohamed Kaddour, 35 years old, was arrested for suspicions of links with his fellow countryman Abdenabi Kounjaa, one of the seven men suspected of masterminding the bombings and who blew themselves up last April in the Madrid suburb of Leganes.
Kaddour is suspected to have connections with the Cheddadi brothers, accused of being involved in March 11 attacks.
On Wednesday, Spanish security services arrested another Moroccan Rachid Bendouda (33 years old), alias "Rachid el Gordo," in Lavapies, the neighborhood where most of the suspected authors of the attacks lived.
Bendouda's arrest comes in the wake of the apprehension of four Moroccans of the same family, who were believed to have abetted the escape from Madrid of two suspects in the bombings.
The attacks of Madrid last March 11 left 191 dead and over 1,500 wounded in Spain's bloodiest terrorist attacks.
