Demonstrations calling for reforms in Cairo

Scores of Egyptian demonstrated on Friday in Cairo demanding the introduction of political reforms amid tough security measures. The demonstrators raised banners deploring the policies of the ruling national party, demanding simultaneously a "free government."
The demonstrators also rejected support for renewal of term to the Egyptian president and the principle of what they see as inheritance of the authority for his son Jamal.
According to the Egyptian constitution, the parliament will decide in May the candidate for the presidency, which afterwards will undergo a people's referendum in September this year.
The Egyptian opposition has repeatedly demanded the introduction of constitutional amendment for permitting several candidates to compete in the presidential elections through direct people's voting.
As he was delivering the Union's speech, on Wednesday, the US President George W. Bush called on each Egypt and Saudi Arabia to make democratic reforms saying that Egypt who has inclined to peace in the past in the Middle East can show a way towards democracy.
Meantime, Human Rights Watch organization which takes New York as a headquarters criticized the acts of detention in Egypt, demanding Mubarak to release one parliamentarian, one journalist and other persons detained arrested at political accusations.
Worthy mentioning that the People's Movement For Change, which includes several civil society establishments, was the organizing side of the demonstration.
