Kuwait detains one Islamist lawyer on charge of financing a terrorist cell
Kuwait, Politics, 2/5/2005

The Kuwaiti security forces yesterday detained a lawyer known for his defense of the Islamists under the charge of financial support for the leader of a terrorist cell.

One of the relatives of lawyer Osama al-Munawer said that the security forces detained him since three days under the charge of providing "financial aid" for Khaled al-Dousari who has been chased by the authorities since July 2004 under the charge of recruiting gunmen and sending them to Iraq; an accusation he has been denying.

This development coincided with the decision taken by the Kuwaiti nation council ( Ummah) on Tuesday on a decision providing for offering the Kuwaiti security forces vast authorities to search for and confiscate unlicensed weapons.

Worthy mentioning that Kuwait witnessed this week confrontations between the security forces and Islamists gunmen that resulted in killing five men including one Saudi and the detention of five others including the leader of the group Amer al-Anzi.

In December 2004, Kuwait witnesses similar clashes that resulted in killing 8 suspects and detention of other 14 while three security men were killed and 11 persons were injured.
