Moroccan arrested in Madrid over links with Madrid bombings
Morocco-Spain, Local, 2/4/2005
The Spanish police arrested Wednesday in Madrid a Moroccan for suspected links with March attacks that left 191 dead and over 1500 wounded, police sources said.
Rachid Bendouda (33 y.o), alias "Rachid el Gordo," was arrested in Lavapies, the neighborhood where most of the suspected authors of the attacks lived.
Rachid's arrest comes in the wake of the apprehension of four Moroccans of the same family, who were believed to have abetted the escape from Madrid of two suspects in the bombings.
Bendouda is believed to have connections with his fellow countryman Abdenabi Kounjaa, one of the seven men suspected of masterminding the bombings.
The seven suspects blew themselves up in April 2004 in the neighborhood of Las.
