Italian opposition calls for withdrawal from Iraq
Iraq-Italy, Politics, 2/4/2005

Italian opposition parties demanded once again on Thursday withdrawal of the Italian troops from Iraq, pointing out that the situation is still dangerous in spite of performing the Iraqi elections.

Head of the Italian Green Party, Alfonso Pecararo Scanio, said "hurrying withdrawal of the foreign troops from Iraq and replacing them by troops from countries that did not participate in the occupation is in the interest of the democratic process in the Iraq." "It can't be understood how the Iraqi elections were performed under bombs and military occupation," Scanio added.

He also stressed that the center-left political parties have a unified attitude that calls for ending the occupation of Iraq and the withdrawal of the Italian troops from its land, wondering about the end-date of the "illegal war" against Iraq.
