Israel studies initiatives, rules out negotiations in Sharm al-Sheikh
Palestine-Israel, Politics, 2/4/2005

The Israeli mini security council discussed on Thursday what is called the series of initiatives towards the Palestinians at a time when it ruled out negotiations with the Palestinians in Sharm al-Sheikh which will be held next Tuesday between the leaders of Israel, the Palestinian authority and Egypt in addition to Jordan.

The Israeli prime minister proposed to the mini council a formula to cease fire including Israel's stopping chase of Palestinian activists under the conditions that those will stop their attacks against the Israelis and hand over their weapons for the Palestinian authority and sign a commitment to stop the attacks.

The proposals include the release of hundreds of Palestinian activists out of 8,000 prisoners in the Israeli jails.

Sharon also asks the consent to transfer security authorization from Israel to the Palestinian authority in five Palestinians cities as from Arieha to Bethlehem and Qilqilya, Toulkarem and Ramullah.

In the same context, one Israeli official in the Israeli government asked to be anonymous said that Sharm al-Sheikh summit will be an occasion to issue statements, but no political negotiations will be held about the American Roadmap initiative because this matter is premature."
