Egyptian intelligence chief talks with Palestinian leaders
Egypt-Palestine, Politics, 2/3/2005
Upon his return back from Israel to Cairo, Egyptian intelligence chief Omar Suleiman held talks with the chairman of the political bureau of the Islamic resistance movement (Hamas) that dealt with the issue of calming down with Israel and the relations with the new Palestinian leadership.
In a press statement, Mashaal stressed there will be no truce without a commitment from the Israeli side.
The secretary general of the Islamic Jihad Movement Ramadan Shalah warned against exaggerated optimism in the results of the expected meeting between Abbas and Sharon. He said in a statement following his meeting with Lt. Gen. Suleiman that Cairo supports the Palestinians without violating stated principles.
