No human rights violations were committed in Darfur, Sudanese diplomat
Sudan, Politics, 2/2/2005
Sudan's ambassador to Morocco, Ahmed Mekki Ahmed Yahia, said, in Rabat Monday, the report drawn up by the Sudanese probe commission on the situation in the province of Darfur revealed that "what has been said by some western parties" on human rights violations in the province "is devoid of truth."
"Some parties have exploited isolated cases of rape and people's escape from the dangers of war to describe it as a genocide, an ethnic purification, and a systematic rape perpetrated by some groups at the instigation of official circles," the diplomat told a press conference, held in Rabat.
Ahmed Yahia said the latest peace accord concluded in Sudan projects to benefit all regions in the country from the same political advantages and from the distribution of wealth, including Darfur.
The conflict of Darfur, whose population is estimated at about 4 million people, dates back to 1932. Up to 2001, the region witnessed over 36 armed conflicts.
