Ten million Dhs to support Laayoune regional TV channel

The Council of Laayoune-Boujdour-Sakia Al Hamra Region allocated a budget of 10 million Dhs, 1 million euros, to support Laayoune TV station, launched November 6, 2004.

This budget, which will be paid in three parts between 2005 and 2007, is part of a partnership project which was presented, Monday, during the January ordinary session of the Council.

The partnership convention provides for enhancing decentralization and the experience of regionalisation in the audiovisual field by technically assisting the channel so as to produce local programs focusing on economic, social, cultural, sports and artistic activities in the region.

The project will cost around 40 million Dhs, three thirds of which will be paid by the general directorate of local authorities, while the southern provinces development agency will contribute 10 million Dhs.

The council's meeting also discussed means to raise new funds to support this media experience, and guarantee the necessary conditions to enable Laayoune channel to fulfill its mission.
