Kuwaiti parliament grants wide authorities to security forces
Kuwait, Politics, 2/2/2005

In its Tuesday's session, the Kuwaiti Ummah council ( parliament) approved a law which gives wide authorization for the security forces in searching for unlicensed weapons and collecting it. The Kuwaiti parliament also expressed support for the security measures taken by the government to withstand the situation in the country.

It took the Kuwaiti parliamentarians seven hours in a close door session to approve this law which was proposed by the government and will be valid for one year eligible for extension.

The Kuwaiti authorities detained Amer Khalif al-Anzi, the presumed leader of Islamists activists in Kuwait, who clashed for four times with the Kuwaiti security forces, the last of which was on Monday in al-Qarin area to the south of the capital al-Kuwait. Five suspects were killed during this clash including one Saudi.

The Kuwaiti minister of the interior Nawaf al-Ahmad al-Sabah expressed hope that this security operation will be a turning point in fighting the "Jihad" trend in Kuwait. He threatened following the parliament's session to chase what he called "the outlaws and to eliminate them."
