Ruling party in Algeria unified ranks in annual conference
Algeria, Politics, 2/1/2005

The Liberation Front party, the largest Algerian party, opened works of its 8th conference which is described as the reconciliation and settling disputes conference. Such disputes erupted in the lines of the party before April elections 2004 in which President Abdul Aziz Butafflika won a second presidential term of office.

The official for the interim coordination commission in the party and the foreign minister Abdul Aziz Butaflika said in an inaugural speech at the conference that the Algerian national front "will make of national reconciliation as one of its priorities." Balkhadem considered that the convening of the conference is an evidence on reuniting the lines of advocates for defense of national values and perpetuating the tradition of a genuine democracy, calling on members of the front to be "up to the level of the event so as to pave the way for a new breakthrough at the national political arena."

Worthy mentioning that the party which controls the majority of the Algerian parliament seats split during the conference which was held in March 2003 to two parties, one of them supports the President Butaflika who officially does not belong to any political formation, while the other party vowed support for the former prime minister Ali Bin Flis.
