New association to sensitize public opinion on question of Moroccans sequestered in Tindouf
Morocco-Algeria, Politics, 1/31/2005
A new association dubbed "Watanouna" was set up on January 20 in Casablanca to sensitize the public opinion on the question of Moroccans who are sequestered in the Polisario-controlled Tindouf camps.
President of the new association, Naima Elmcherqui, said in a release "Watanouna" aims to draw the attention of the international public opinion on human rights violations committed in the camps and to denounce the exploitation of families by the Algeria-backed Polisario group, a guerrilla movement claiming the separation of the Moroccan Sahara.
"Watanouna" called on international organizations to "intervene to bring to halt the suffering of families and children, who are separated from their mothers, and to release all Moroccans sequestered in Tindouf."
The association will organize next March a rally to "express the Moroccan people's solidarity and support of their co-citizens and call for their immediate and unconditional release."
