More attacks outside the Iraqi capital

Outside the Iraqi capital Baghdad, one policeman was killed in mortar shelling attack that targeted an election center in al-Mahaweel area in Babel governorate to the south of Baghdad.
In al- Basra to the south of Iraq, two mortars shelling fell near a voting center to the north of the city but no casualties were reported. Police sources said that its forces chased the man who fired the two shelling and arrested him.
In al-Musil, six explosions were heard in the third greater Iraqi city but no reports on casualties.
In Baqouba to the northern west of Baghdad, one headquarters for the American forces was attacked by Katyusha missiles to the north of the city. Following the attack, clashes erupted by machineguns in various parts of Baqouba. Streets of the city are still empty as very few people cast their votes in the city.
Karkoik airport which is used as a headquarters for the American forces was exposed to mortars shelling, just minutes after opening the ballot centers in the city which has been witnessing ethnic tension. Warning whistles were heard in the region, while American planes were flying in the skies of the city.
In Sameraa to the north of Baghdad three mortars shelling fell on a school including a voting center in Sameraa on Sunday. Earlier in the day, chairman of Sameraa city council said that elections will not take place in the city because of the security conditions.
