Scores were killed in attacks in the Iraqi elections day

More than 30 Iraqis were killed and other scores injured in a series of attacks that targeted the ballot centers in Baghdad and other Iraqi cities following the beginning of voting in the first multiple elections taking place in the country since 50 years.

The western area of Baghdad witnessed 6 suicide attacks the last of which resulted in killing one person and injuring 16, while one Iraqi policeman was killed and one civilians and other four injured when one suicide bomber detonated an explosive belt he was wearing in one ballot centers in the same area.

Earlier, four Iraqis were killed and other 6 injured when one suicide bomber detonated himself in an election center in al-Iskan ( housing) area to the west of Baghdad.

Iraqi sources said that 6 Iraqis were killed and other 13 injured in a booby trapped car explosion at a security check point near an election center in al-Mansour quarters to the west of Baghdad. This was followed by another explosion in the same quarters targeting a second election center that resulted in killing at least one person and several injured.

Meantime, several persons were killed or injured in a missile attack at an election center in Maysaloun school in the same area.

Another booby trapped car went off at a checkpoint which was protecting a ballot center to the west of Baghdad that resulted in killing one police man and injuring other four persons including two Iraqi soldiers.

In another attack, one suicide bomber detonated himself in a queue for voters at a ballot center in Baghdad. Iraqi police sources said that the explosion resulted in casualties in the lines of the voters giving no mention to the number of killed and injured.

In al-Jamilah quarters situated at the entrance of al-Sader city in Baghdad, four persons were killed and other 7 injured when mortar fire fell on the voting centers.

One suicide bomber detonated himself among voters in a voting center in Zeyouna area to the east of Baghdad leaving six Iraqis killed.

Meanwhile, two mortars shelling fell near the ministry of the interior from the eastern side, while fire was exchanged between gunmen and the Iraqi police and the American forces in the new Baghdad area. No information were reported on casualties.

Two Iraqis were killed when mortars shelling fell at their house in al-Amel quarters to the southern west of Baghdad after the shelling missed a nearby election center.
