Seif al-Islam al-Qathafi: Libya is proceeding towards more liberal economy
Libya, Economics, 1/29/2005

Son of the Libyan leader Muammar al-Qathafi, Seif al-Islam, said that Libya will make greaterst economic reforms in 3 decades with the aim to move to a more liberal economy.

In an interview published yesterday by the British International Herald Tribune Seif al-Islam said "old times ended and Libya is ready to move to a new phase of modernization." He said in Davos in Switzerland, this modernization should concentrate on "specialization programs in an attempt to move to a more liberal economy competing with neighboring states." He explained this will be made in a "regular way to ensure a new openness and guarantees properties to remain in the hands of Libyans rather than for a small group like in Russia and Egypt." For achieving this purpose, Libya asked international experts to work to specify the economic reforms that should be taken to maintain openness.

Seif al-Islam said "we will not manufacture missiles or planes or any thing of the sort. Japan provides a much better quality."
