National project for translation supported at 10 million Egyptian pounds

During his inauguration of the 37th session of the Cairo International Fair for book, the Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak gave great support to the national project for translation at a cost of 10 million Egyptian pound.

The national project for translation started in 1995 by issuing five titles annually. Now the average rate of publications reached 100 titles annually. So far more than 800 titles were issued translated from 30 old and live languages.

Among the most important classics which were translated within the project are "the Iliad " from the ancient Greek mythology, "The Matoun of Pyramids," "the book of the dead" from the Hieroglyphic language, al-Mathnawi ( the Dual) for the Sheikh of Sufism Jalal Eddine al-Roumi from the Persian language; " Doin Xousite "from Spanish in addition to Darwin's book "the origin of species."

The project also launched the book of the late French intellectual Jack Darida about the September 11, 2001 incidents, before the issuance of its French version in few weeks in agreement with the author, in addition to several contemporary prominent intellectuals which the project translated their works like the British Robert Young and the American Naom Chomky and Tree Eaglton.
