Abul Gheit: Cooperation between Egypt, African continent political decision

Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul Gheit said enhancing cooperation between Egypt and the African continent is a political decision taken at the highest level.

Speaking to reporters following the opening session of the African Union's sixth session in the Nigerian capital Abuja said the corning period will witness some Egyptian moves towards the African issues.

Today's session comes within the context of setting the stage for the AU fourth ordinary summit to open on Sunday.

Abul Gheit added that Egypt will review at the meetings its humanitarian and political role in Darfur, Congo, Rwanda and other areas.

As part of Egypt's efforts in the peacemaking field, Egypt has almost finalized the endorsement measures of a protocol for setting up the African peace and security council, he said.
