The three coming years decisive for the tourism sector in Morocco, minister
Morocco, Economics, 1/28/2005

The three coming years will be decisive for the tourism sector in Morocco and it is imperative to double the construction of hotels to reach the 203,000 bed capacity by 2010 or 2012, tourism minister, Adil Douiri said.

DouIri told "Attajdid" daily of Thursday tourism results were good in 2004 compared to previous years, adding some 5.5 million people visited the country, which is a 28 percent rise.

He added hotel construction was boosted by six folds during the past four years with the building of an average 25 to 30 hotel per year, calling on banks to honour their commitments to fund the Azur credit, wishing investments will go to hotels. The minister said one of the sector priorities is to sell some 150 construction lots, which have been equipped thanks to state subsidies, hoping the building lots could be sold within one and a half year.

The tourism department also desires to arrive, in 2005, at agreements with various regional authorities and other parties to develop tourism in line with the general agreement adopted in 2001 concerning the "2010 vision" aiming at substantially increasing the number of tourist arrivals in Morocco by 2010.
