Reactions to president al-Assad's visit to Russia

Arab officials and newspapers paid attention on Thursday to the current visit of President Bashar al-Assad to Moscow noting to the importance of reactivating the Russian role in the Middle East.
Lebanese former Prime Minister Salim al-Hoss said the visit was a success and achieved significant accomplishments.
In a statement to SANA, Hoss said the visit has boosted constructive cooperation horizons with a great state highlighting the importance of reactivating the Russian political role in the Middle East.
Lebanese Newspaper al-Liwa said the visit of President al-Assad to Russia posed as a new progress in the Syrian-Russian history.
It noted that ties have witnessed in the recent years a "remarkable progress" and quoted Russia's President Vladimir Putin as saying "our task is not to return the previous level of bilateral cooperation, but rather we have to surpass that."
Al-Diyar, another Lebanese paper said the successful visit of President al-Assad to Moscow has achieved the aspired to results on the economic and political domains not to mention the cordial ties cementing between Damascus and Moscow.
"The economic achievements of the visit are embodied in signing of cooperation accords in the oil, gas, transport, investment protection and solving the debts issue," the paper said.
Meanwhile, The United Arab Emirates newspaper al-Khalij, depicted President al-Assad's visit to Russia as historical stressing that it enjoys a special and distinctive importance on the Syrian-Russian ties and their future horizons.
"The political dimension of the visit constitutes a pivotal importance due to the big significance of Russia's return to involve in an active way in the quest of a solution to the Mideast peace process," the newspaper said.
It underlined that the visit poses as a significant momentum to the ancient and traditional historical ties between the two countries and to boost them in all domains mainly after more than sixty years of building diplomatic relations.
" The summit has posed as a Syrian move towards enhancing the international Syrian ties that will work to boost the Syrian role presence regionally and internationally and to support the Syrian position over the regional issues," al-Khalij said.
