Morocco-Spain, Economics, 1/26/2005
President of the Spanish electricity company "Red Electrica de espana" (REE), Luis Atienza, announced, in Madrid Tuesday, that works will start "on February or March 2005" to establish a new submarine cable to reinforce the electrical interconnection between Morocco and Spain.
The cable will bind Mellousa power station in Morocco to Pinar Del Rey in Spain. The new interconnection, to cost 117 million Euro, will be operational in March 2006, said the same source, noting that it was initially due to start functioning in 2005.
This new operation is aimed at doubling the physical capacity of the electrical interconnection between Morocco and Spain from 700 to 1400 Megawatts (MW).
