Syria-Russia, Politics, 1/25/2005

Chief of the Syrian-Russian Businessmen Council Abdul-Rahman al-Attar said "President Bashar al-Assad's upcoming visit to Russia would support the economic relations between Syria and Russia."

In an interview with Tishreen daily issued Sunday al-Attar, who is currently in Moscow, touched upon the current preparations with the Russian side for holding bilateral meetings between businessmen of the two countries and upon studies for founding joint projects in fields of tourism, building hotels in addition to launching joint investment projects.

"There would be a meeting in Syria for tourism investment where several tourism projects are to be discussed." He said.

Al-Attar went on to say that during meetings, issues of establishment of a Free Trade Zone between Syria and Russia would be raised and supported. "Founding joint companies in field of petrochemical industries which depend on gas is to be reviewed also." Al-Attar mentioned wishing that public and private sectors in both Syria and Russia would contribute in those companies.
