Bush commends Yemen's efforts in democracy, terrorism fighting
Yemen-USA, Politics, 1/25/2005
In a message of congratulations on the occasion of Eid al-Adha, the US President George W. Bush commended the efforts made by the Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh to fighting "terrorism" and in the field of democracy and economic development.
This praise by the American President coincided with the ratification of the US Congress by the beginning of January of a decision considering Yemen together with Jordan, Morocco, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and Oman as "an example to be followed" in all other Arab states in the field of democracy.
The US Congress proposed to help these countries in their future challenges in the field of reforms in order to boost the reform in the field of democracy and freedom.
In a statement, the American embassy in Sanaa considered that the recent parliamentary elections in the country by the end of 2003 was the most transparent and free Yemeni elections, noting that "Yemen, despite its poor natural resources, yet, it has been achieving progress in supporting political, economic and educational reforms."
Worthy mentioning that Washington considers Yemen as an effective partner in fighting what is called terrorism following the September 11, 2001 events. Yemen launched a campaign of chasing members of al-Qaida organization and many of them where brought before justice.
