Djibouti expels experts from France, stops France radio broadcasting
Djibouti-France, Politics, 1/24/2005
France announced that Djibouti decided to expel said French experts and stop a broadcasting station for the International France Radio after the French Judiciary demanded hearing of the chairman of the intelligence department in Djibouti Hassan Saeed in the course of investigation in the assassination of the French Judge Bernard Burweil in 1995.
The court of cassation in Vessels, near Paris ordered on January 10th to listen to Saeed Hassan after one army officer from Djibouti who fled as a refugee to Brussels said that Hassan had forced him to lie in the case of the killing of the said French judge.
The wife of the judge filed a complaint after the body of her husband was found half burnt with benzene in 1995 outside the capital Djibouti. The investigation concluded that the judge committed suicide by burning himself, however, France continued to incline to the theory of his assassination.
Djibouti hosts the largest French military base in Africa including 2700 men. It also permitted the USA and Germany to deploy hundreds of its forces on their territories since 2002 in the context of what is called "permanent freedom" operation to fight terrorism.
