Three women were killed in a bomb explosion to the south of Algiers
Algeria, Local, 1/24/2005

One explosion in a cemetery to the south of Algiers resulted in killing three women and injuring five while they were attending the cemetery during Eid al-Adha holiday visits.

The Algerian daily al-Akhbar said that a bomb, locally made, went off at the entrance of Ein al-Rummaneh cemetery, 50 Km to the south of the capital, on Friday, the second Day of Eid al-Adha. This is considered one of the areas where gunmen are active, especially the armed Islamic groups, on which the Algerian government said last week, has been dismantled after years of launching fatal attacks against the security forces.

In another incident, the Algerian authorities said that the al-Salafeyah group for al-Dawa Wal Qital ( call and fighting ) which is linked to al-Qaida organization killed one military man in Bejjaya to the east of the capital Algiers in Kbyle area.

The Algerian daily al-Akhbar also said that gunmen wearing the uniforms of soldiers installed a false checkpoint and stopped several passengers and properties.

This month some 40 persons were killed in acts of violence attributed to what are called the extremists Islamists. Acts of violence continue to claim the lives of victims despite the decrease of operations since the Summer of 2003.
