Israel reopens Rafah crossing
Palestine-Israel, Politics, 1/22/2005
Israel on Friday re-opened Rafah border crossing between Egypt and Gaza after it was closed for 6 weeks during which thousands of Palestinians coming from the Egyptian side of the crossing received great difficulties.
Palestinian medical sources said that 9 Palestinians who were held in the crossing died while several patients still suffer conditions that worsened their situations.
The Israeli occupation forces closed the said crossing on December 12, 2004 following an attack that resulted in killing five Israeli soldiers and one Palestinian executor of the operation. This however, is amongst the longest periods in which this crossing has been closed.
On the other hand, one spokesman for the Israeli army said that a Palestinian from the Fatah Movement was detained on Thursday evening during an incursion for the occupation forces in the downtown of Ramullah. This was, however, for the first time since months. The occupation forces also detained 6 wanted Israelis in various parts of the West Bank.
