One American clergy was stabbed in Algiers
Algeria-USA, Local, 1/21/2005
An unidentified man stabbed a American Christian clergy in the downtown of Algiers, while the security forces started plenary investigations to know the implications of the incident.
The security and diplomatic source on Thursday did not rule out that behind the incident are reasons pertinent to operations of what it called Islamic rebels, noting that the injured American clergy Hug Johnson, the patron of the Algerian Protestant Church, is currently undergoing surgery operation to treat the consequences of the stab.
Worthy mentioning in this regard that Algeria has been for ten years suffering a series of acts of violence after the government abrogated the results of parliamentary election won by the Islamic Salvation Front in 1992. Since then, some 150,000 persons were killed, according to statistics of several human rights organizations.
