On the Iraqi elections
Iraq, Politics, 1/21/2005

The higher commission for elections in Iraq issued a new system in which it authorized its council of commissioners to settle disputes and issue sanctions over violations emerging between sides participating in the elections due on January 30th.

In this regard, the British foreign office secretary Jack Straw considered the elections which will be taking place in Iraq will not be the best because it is boycotted by the Sunni communities there.

Straw told the Financial Times that the more the voter turnout, the more credibility will be given to the elections, stressing the need of developing an elections system and constitution that includes minorities in Iraq.

For his part, the Russian foreign minister stressed his country's support for holding the Iraqi elections at its due time.
